Election Goes Down in History

One of the most memorable elections is about to go down into history. This presidential election could make or break the United States of America. As Obama and McCain battle it out America awaits to see what damage will be done. Will Obama raise taxes or will McCain keep us in the war in Iraq? This question is something that all Americans will have on their minds as they walk up to the polls to place their vote. Obama is all about redistributing the wealth among the poor, and by doing so raising taxes on those that make a certain income. McCain states that raising taxes in a bad economic climate is the worst thing that you could possibly do.
Obama wants to get our troops out of Iraq as soon as possible. What about all those troops that have lost their lives already, if we pull out now then those troops would have lost their lives for no reason. We have not finished what we were sent to do in Iraq it would be a waste to pull out now. McCain believes to keep the same winning strategy that we have now. He feels we should bring our troops home with victory and honor
I agree very strongly with McCain. Either way I feel that each candidate will lead America into some disappointment.
Republican states that seem to be a for sure vote seems to be losing more and more ground each day. McCain has seemed to have lost his home state of Arizona. As of today Obama leads McCain 131 electoral votes, just three votes higher then he was up yesterday. This election will go down into history books, an election that may very well cause fights to break out or cause an assassination.

While I agree whole heartedly that this election was historic, I do not agree with your take on what constitutes a viable platform. President-Elect Obama’s plan to raise taxes applies to those individuals who make over $250,000 a year. This represents less than 6% of families and households in the United States according to the US Census Bureau. These above average income individuals include CEO’s of large companies who just received $700 billion in tax money from citizens whose median income ranges from $48,000 - $70,000 a year. I would much rather see “the wealth” spread from top to bottom than from bottom to top. Maybe McCain does feel strongly about raising taxes in a volatile economic climate or maybe he doesn’t want taxes to go up on all the homes he has, which were apparently to numerous to recollect on demand.
As for the war in Iraq, I don’t see how losing over 4,000 Americans soldiers and over 45,000 Iraqi citizens can be viewed as a winning strategy. Bringing our troops home now would be the truly honorable thing to do. I agree that those troops lost their lives “for no reason”; America should never have been there to begin with. The current administration coerced the American public to believe the unsubstantiated claim that Iraq was harboring weapons of mass destruction. Those men and women need to come home and protect our land here, not special interests abroad.
Only the ignorant and uniformed would create chaos and plot assassinations based on the outcome. This election has gone down in the history books and I’m glad the citizens of this country and Senator McCain had enough civility to end the race on a unified note.

I agree with your stand on the elections. Both candidates are likely to disappoint and leave a huge mark in history. I too agree more with McCain's views than Obama's although that point is kind of moot now that Obama has been elected. The question that now remains is what will Obama do? I strongly disagree with the idea of "redistributing the wealth among the poor" as you say and hope he doesn't follow through with that plan. The next four years present a great challenge for the President-Elect, four years that could be the most important in this nations history.

Govt. 101 thinks

Regardless of what side you were voting for we all can agree that this election has made history that will be studied by the future generations to come. We have experienced history in the making with Obama being our first African American president as well as the democratic party taking over even though according to the realigning cycle this was way over due. I also believe our country with face disappointments due to broken promises made by President Obama. However we can only hope that the next fours years really does bring "change" to our country for better and not for worse.
